Thanks for visiting!

My name is Denise Montoya, I am a local horseback riding instructor in the San Francisco bay area. I’ve been on the injured reserve list for the last 5 months and I’m just now getting strong enough to start taking in students again.

The end of January in a freak accident I fell through a rotted board coming down some stairs and overextended 2 tendons in my ankle. Unfortunately, for me I have not been able to work and was at risk of losing my business completely. I’ve had to restructure my business, let some things go and split up the heard to be able to continue doing this thing that I love to do.

I started in January of 2014. I have been teaching private lessons for the last 11 years part time and decided in 2014 that it was time to take a leap of faith and attempt this dream full time.

It has been quite the rollercoaster ride I have to say, being a single mom and doing everything yourself including cleaning stalls. It’s hard to get back to everyone that calls in a timely manner.  So, I apologize in advance for that and when I am fortunate enough to hire a scheduling coordinator it won’t be a problem anymore…

I follow natural horsemanship and teach beginner English and Western styles of riding. I've studied Sally Swift and I believe in the centered riding method. I believe in teaching horseback riding from the ground up. I think it is important to have a relationship with the horse so that you can both move forward as a team. Both the rider and the horse have to trust each other and have confidence in one another so that both can be safe and have fun.

My band of misfits are now back together and I will be running my business from Renegade Ranch in Montara Ca.

It's been proven that horses are not only good for the soul but can have many positive benefits including:

  • Increased self-confidence
  • trust building skills
  • responsibility
  • perspective
  • boundaries
  • self-acceptance
  • self-sufficiency
  • communication skills verbal/non verbal

Don't give them something to run from, give them something to run to!
